Supplements have been around for quite awhile now and are widely used by weight lifters, bodybuilders as well as athletes. The debate about whether whey or casein is better post workout is still well alive and the battle continues. There will always be a group who will advocate that casein can be mixed with whey post workout whereas others will claim that you need an instant supply of amino acids to your muscles to reap maximum benefits and this can only be achieved with whey isolates. For many, casein protein is best used pre bed for a gradual release of amino acids to muscle tissues fostering anabolism.

Weight gainers are another type of supplements which can be used. Ectomorphs or skinny people can greatly benefit from them as they are packed with loads of calories including carbs, protein, fats, sugars, dietary fiber and sometimes muscle enhancers like Creatine Monohydrate, L-glutamine and L-arginine.
